Large Vanilla Orchid | Vanilla planifolia

The vanilla plant is a perennial climbing vine which climbs to around 15 metres in its native environement and supports itself by means of aerial roots. We love this one for its fleshy bright green leaves that resemble long bean pods which can vary in length.

Currently the vines of this plant as pictured are entwined within the pot, but if stretched out they would be much longer. As pictured, the plant measures approx 20cm in diameter and 15cm in height but if untangled, it would be much longer.

Vanilla orchids prefer well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Grown best when planted in a hot humid climate with adequate rainfall. These are perfect in hanging basket or in pot on a shelf where its unique foliage can cascade over the sides.
